The Pillow Toddler Games
Create a safe obstacle Course in your living room of family rooms with simple zigzagging path of pillows and cushions.

  • Encourage your child to complete the course by crawling or walking along the path. It will be a bumpy, lumpy route, so even if he’s already walking be sure to hold on to his hand as he begins the journey. Once he become more sure-footed, let him take some steps on the pillows by him, but stay nearby just in case he starts to topple. Remove your toddler’s shoes and socks to help him keep his balance.
  • Vary the height of the path by stacking a couple of pillows. To make the course more challenging, run it under a table so he has to crawl underneath, or position pillow around the room so he must maneuver around soft furniture such as couches (avoid furniture with sharp edges).
  • Use cushions and pillows of varying sizes, colors, and textures. Don’t be surprised if your young athlete stops occasionally to feel the obstacles with his hands or feet. Allow him to explore, the gently encourage him to keep going.

Movement and exploration are near and dear to a toddler’s heart, so an opportunity to move around in an interesting environment is bound to be met with joy. This activity is also an excellent way for your toddler to build his motor skills by challenging large muscle groups and to increase both his balance and coordination as he faces physical obstacles.
